This report presents a part of major efforts put by the Magadangeologia
This report presents a part of major efforts put by the Magadangeologia (reorganised into the JSC Northwestern Industrial Geological Group) into development of geological prospecting programme in the Northwestern Russia.
As the reserve of discovered deposits has been exhausted, the systematic prospecting works become essential; therewith, the intensification of exploration activities is needed to discover new fields.
In the following report:
1. The successful experience of systematic exploration works is considered, starting with geological surveying and airborne geophysical studies that allowed discovering a new structure-metallogenic zone. The sequential prospecting works were launched in this area. The first post-Soviet gold ore occurrence-deposit in the Central Kolyma region was found, as well as ore occurrences and areas where the works are being continued. The analysed negative outcomes at a number of allotments are inevitable, but with the systematic approach this does not result in a desire of scaling works down as it could be when studying a single allotment.
2. The future prospects of systematic gold, silver and copper exploration works in the Northwestern Russia are shown.
3. Issues of project funding and management are discussed in the conclusion. The systematically catastrophically deteriorating quality of geological prospecting works is revealed through particular cases. The ways to address the issues are proposed.
